Victorian-era painter John Atkinson Grimshaw (pictured), born in Leeds named the house “Castle by the Sea” from Longfellows Poem.

Grimshaw is without question the most important artist to have lived and painted in Scarborough.

Our sea front Hotel in Scarborough’s North Bay is in easy walking distance of the North & South Bay. There is an abundance of restaurants in the town, Anne Bronte's grave is located in St.Mary's chuch yard being just 2 minutes walk from the castle by the sea guest house.

Also available for your enjoyment are Stephen Joseph Theatre and the lively night life and plenty of entertainment in Scarborough. There are 2 golf courses, indoor bowls, Scarborough Cricket Club, Peasholm Park, swimming pool, sea life centre, Scarborough Harbour and fishing, both sea and fresh water.
