Victorian-era painter John Atkinson Grimshaw (pictured), born in Leeds named the house “Castle by the Sea” from Longfellows Poem.

Grimshaw is without question the most important artist to have lived and painted in Scarborough.

DOG FRIENDLY GUESTHOUSE - As a dog friendly guesthouse many of our guests who are accompanied by their dogs will be able to enjoy walks along the castle wall enjoying the castle views and the sunrise over the South bay, this area is stressfree from any traffic. Other lovely walks around the area include many dog friendly pubs.
