History
The house has many historic and interesting features, for example, the oak entrance door and dado rail came from the vestry at St Anne's R.C. Cathedral in Leeds.

The walkway around the side of the hotel overlooking the North Bay is mentioned in Anne Bronte's novel 'Agnes Grey'. Anne is buried at the bottom of Mulgrave Place in St. Mary's Churchyard.
John Atkinson Grimshaw
Victorian-era painter John Atkinson Grimshaw (pictured), born in Leeds named the house “Castle by the Sea” from Longfellows Poem.
Grimshaw is without question the most important artist to have lived and painted in Scarborough.
